The critical decade: Making energy work

To celebrate the Energy Efficiency Council's 10th anniversary, we held a very special event in Melbourne to reflect on the past 10 years in energy efficiency, celebrate the work of our members, partners and the industry as a whole, and look ahead to the opportunities of the coming decades.

The event kicked off with a forum featuring a keynote address from The Hon. Mark Butler MP and the launch of the Council's latest flagship report The World's First Fuel: How energy efficiency is reshaping global energy systems.

This was followed by a lively panel discussion with global and local experts Audrey Zibelman, Christoph von Speßhardt and Davina Rooney. They discussed why the next decade is critical for Australia’s energy transformation, and how to move energy management to the centre of our energy debate to get to an energy system that is affordable, reliable and clean for everyone.

After the forum, we flipped the switch from policy to party. The celebratory reception featured musical philosopher Will Tait and a special presentation to the Council's 10 founding members. It was an excellent opportunity for the Council to meet with the members from the wider energy community, and thank them for their hard work over the past decade.

Launch of the EEC's latest flagship report

One of the highlights of the event was the launch of the Energy Efficiency Council’s latest flagship report: The World's First Fuel: How Energy Efficiency Is Reshaping Global Energy Systems.

Authored by Council Head of Policy, Rob Murray-Leach, this new report examines the energy efficiency policies that have been introduced by global leaders like China, Germany and the US, and the lessons for Australia.

The report highlights key lessons for energy markets, energy efficiency schemes, appliance standards and saving energy in buildings, manufacturing, and transport. The report is informed by extensive research and interviews with global experts from the US, Europe and Asia.

This ambitious new report combines the latest information from overseas with Rob's key insights gleaned from the past ten years in the energy efficiency sector.

The report has received coverage by several news outlets, including Sky News, The Guardian, SBS News and news.com.au.
