The Chloe Munro Scholarship for Transformational Leadership


We recently lost one of the giants of our sector, Chloe Munro AO. In honour of Chloe Munro's overwhelming contribution to Australia's energy industry, the EEC along with a coalition of leading energy organisations have come together to support women in energy, continuing Chloe's legacy of doing just that.

The Chloe Munro Scholarship for Transformational Leadership is for emerging and mid-level female leaders in the fields of renewable energy, energy management and carbon abatement, acknowledging Chloe's deep commitment to supporting a systemic approach to Australia's energy transition.

Monash University launches “toolbox” to support the uptake of microgrids across Victoria


Energy Efficiency Council Education Partner Member Monash University recently launched an online ‘toolbox’ to support the implementation of microgrids in commercial, industrial and community settings, in order to enable the shift to renewable powered embedded networks.

The Microgrid Electricity Market Operator (MEMO) ‘toolbox’ is comprised of a step-by-step journey on how to develop a microgrid – from planning to operations – to help guide precincts, businesses and communities through the process. The work was partly funded by the Victorian Government's Microgrid Demonstration Initiative.

Efficiency Leader with Carlos Flores

In this month’s Efficiency Leader, we are profiling Carlos Flores, Director of NABERS. Carlos leads the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS), which, along with the Commercial Building Disclosure program, is one of Australia's most successful sustainability initiatives.

NABERS is managed by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment on behalf of the Federal, State and Territory governments of Australia, and is at the heart of Australia's environmental policy for the commercial building sector.

Industry, safeguards and CBAMs

Australia’s large energy users (including mining and manufacturing) are emissions-intensive by global standards for developed economies. As the world moves towards net zero emissions, our large energy users are going to need to rapidly decarbonise. In August two new major papers looked at key issues for large energy users, written by the Grattan Institute and one by the Australian Industry Group. Rob Murray-Leach summarises these papers, and notices considerable overlap in their messages.
