Listen to the podcast here.
Recorded: Thursday 7 May 2020
Brian Motherway, Head of Energy Efficiency at the International Energy Agency, will highlight how energy efficiency can boost economies quickly, with long-lasting benefits.
Brian oversees a range of analytical and outreach programmes supporting energy efficiency globally. Prior to joining the IEA Brian was Chief Executive of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. Brian holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in engineering and a PhD in sociology. Brian will give an international perspective on the discussion around demand-side stimulus measures in the economic rebound post COVID-19.
While health and well-being is currently the immediate priority for governments around the world, the immediate economic impact is in close competition for attention. Energy efficiency is a sensible solution, offering much in terms of economic stimulus and employment opportunities while increasing energy affordability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Buildings and construction, technology upgrades, lessons from previous stimulus programs, and turning short-term impacts into long-term transformations are some of the topics on the table for this installation in the webinar series.
