For businesses and energy users

For businesses and energy users

For businesses and energy users

What is energy efficiency?

The International Energy Agency (IEA) refers to energy efficiency as the ‘first fuel’, as energy efficiency investments are often more cost-effective than investments in other energy sources, including fossil fuels and renewable energy technologies.

For business and industry, energy efficiency means increased productivity, lower energy and maintenance costs, increased competitiveness, improved amenity for staff and reduced exposure to fluctuating energy prices.

For households, energy efficiency means lower energy bills, a more comfortable home and doing our bit for the environment.

For governments, energy efficiency means leading by example, prudent management of taxpayer funds, improved energy security and a better environment for all.

Energy efficiency is where smart consumers start before considering other investments.

Navigating a dynamic energy landscape

There is an enormous amount of information on energy in the public domain, yet it can be hard for business leaders to extract what matters for their businesses.

Navigating a dynamic energy landscape: a briefing for Australian businesses is an executive-level briefing designed to cut through the noise and help businesses confidently navigate Australia’s dynamic energy landscape.

The sector spotlights and other resources that accompany the briefing exist to support this aim.

Go to energybriefing.org.au for the latest Navigating a dynamic energy landscape resources, including the latest edition of the energy briefing, sector spotlights, energy 101s and more

What do energy efficiency providers do?

Unlocking the potential of energy efficiency, cogeneration and demand management requires specialists that know how to deliver projects while supporting their clients’ core goals.

There are a multitude of ways that Australia's energy efficiency sector supports businesses, households and governments to use energy more wisely:

  • Identifying energy efficiency opportunities at specific buildings and sites
  • Working with clients to improve facilities, equipment, processes and behaviour
  • Developing and manufacturing advanced energy efficiency products

We bridge the gap between research and climate action and catalyse action towards net zero within Australia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Our collaborative approach helps key players in our region create practical, tailored climate solutions across the whole economy. We've set our sights on making net zero a reality across the entire economy. This is critical to limiting warming to 1.5 degrees, in alignment with the Paris Agreement.

Our four pillars approach is how we can get there;

  1. Energy efficiency and conservation
  2. Decarbonise electricity
  3. Electrify and switch to cleaner fuels
  4. Reduce non-energy emissions and offset

Our end-to-end approach underpins how we collaborate and design programs. We develop agenda-setting research and apply it to specific contexts to meet stakeholder needs. We then implement our findings and empower people to create change.

There is an enormous amount of information on energy in the public domain, yet it can be hard for business leaders to extract what matters for their businesses.

Navigating a dynamic energy landscape is an executive-level briefing designed to cut through the noise and help businesses confidently navigate Australia’s dynamic energy landscape.

The briefing features a breakdown of current energy trends and how they are playing out in business energy bills.

It also features case studies that demonstrate how businesses are using data analytics, energy efficiency, renewable energy, demand response and smarter contracting to reduce their energy costs.

The Energy Efficiency Council will regularly refresh the briefing with up to date data, analysis, recommendations, and case studies.
